The short answer

Hiring dedicated developers means a developer or small team works on your product, under your direction, for as long as you need. Zemash Ltd, a UK company offering services for US businesses, finds and introduces the developers, so you skip a full recruitment process of your own.

Definition

What is a dedicated developer?

A dedicated developer takes direction from you and stays with your product across sprints. A freelancer takes one task, and a project team delivers a fixed scope and leaves.

For a short project or a gap, IT staff augmentation is the closer fit.

Our guide to hiring a software developer covers the wider decision.

Three ways to get development help

  • Dedicated developer: works on your product over time
  • Freelancer: hired for a defined task
  • Project team: delivers a fixed scope

What you get

What does a dedicated developer hire include?

You own the product and the priorities. We run the search and the start.

Role and stack brief

We write down the language, framework, seniority and the first quarter’s work.

Search

We look for developers that match your brief. You test them against your stack in your own interviews.

Shortlist

You receive a shortlist with each developer’s skills, experience and working hours.

Interviews

You run your own interviews, so you judge fit before you commit.

Terms

The arrangement is put in writing before work starts.

First sprint

Once terms are agreed, you plan the first sprint with the developer.

How it works

How a hire works

From brief to first sprint.

1

Brief

We settle the product, the stack, the seniority and how your team works.

2

Shortlist

We send developers whose skills and hours fit.

3

Interview

You run the technical interview and make the choice.

4

Agree terms

The arrangement is signed off in writing.

5

First sprint

The developer gets access to your repository and tools, joins stand ups and helps plan the sprint.

Who it suits

Who hires a dedicated developer?

Three common situations.

A first version

A founder building a first version gets steady output on one product without hiring a full engineering team.

A growing backlog

A product team with a backlog can add a developer to clear it while the core team stays on the roadmap.

A second pair of hands

A small engineering team that needs another developer, or a few, can add capacity and keep its own process.

Cost

What affects the cost of a dedicated developer?

Cost follows seniority, stack and how long the arrangement runs.

Pricing depends on scope. Book a 15 minute call or email contact@zemash.com.

What affects the cost

  • Seniority of the developer
  • The stack and tools
  • Length of the arrangement
  • Size of the team
